Storing and Displaying Nicotine Pouches: Retailer Tips

27 October 2026

Nicotine pouches are compact and easy to store, but how you handle them still affects what the customer gets. Cans that sit in a warm window for weeks, or stock that is never rotated, lead to returns and unhappy customers.

This guide covers practical storage and display habits for shops and kiosks.

Storage basics

Follow the manufacturer's guidance

Each brand gives its own storage instructions and best-before date on the can. These are the rules to follow. If a can says to store it in a cool, dry place, that is what it means.

Keep stock cool and dry

As a general habit:

  • store cans away from heaters, radiators and hot equipment;
  • avoid places that get very warm, such as a sunny window or a hot stockroom in summer;
  • keep stock dry and away from damp walls or floors;
  • keep cans in their original packaging until they go on the shelf.

Keep stock out of direct sunlight

Direct sunlight can heat up cans quickly, even when the room feels fine. Keep both stockroom shelves and display units out of direct sun.

Keep cans closed and undamaged

Do not open cans or break seals. Check deliveries when they arrive, and set aside any cans with damaged packaging.

Shelf life and best-before dates

Nicotine pouches have a best-before date printed on the can. The exact period depends on the product, so check each can rather than assuming.

Check dates on arrival

When a delivery arrives, check the dates on a sample of cans from each product. Note them in your stock list.

Rotate stock: first in, first out

Place new stock behind existing stock, so older cans sell first. This is the simplest way to avoid expired products.

Order what you can sell

Large stocks of slow sellers are the main cause of out-of-date products. Since SnusCore Wholesale sells in steps of 10 cans, you can keep quantities of slow sellers small. Our guide to mixed wholesale orders explains how to spread a 240-can order without overstocking.

Check regularly

Set a routine, for example once a week, to check dates on the shelf and in the stockroom. Move older stock forward and remove anything past its date.

Display tips

Keep products behind the counter or in a controlled display

Nicotine pouches are for adults 18+ only. Keep them where staff control access, typically behind the counter or in a closed display. Check age on every sale. Local display rules differ by country and change over time, so check whether your country has specific requirements on how nicotine products may be displayed.

Organise so customers can find their product

Customers usually know what they want. Make it easy to find:

  • By brand: keep each brand together, for example the VELO range in one block and the ZYN range in another.
  • By strength within each brand: from Light to Extra strong, left to right or top to bottom.
  • By format: keep slim, mini and regular versions of a brand close together but clearly separated.

Label clearly

Each shelf position should show:

  • the product name;
  • the strength in mg per pouch;
  • the format, such as Slim or Mini;
  • the price.

If you stock 0 mg products, such as VELO Bright Peppermint Zero or LOOP Zero Cool Mint, label them clearly so they are not confused with nicotine products.

Keep faces forward and shelves full

A tidy shelf with every can facing forward looks better and makes it easier to see what is missing. Refill from the stockroom regularly so best sellers are always visible.

Leave room for new products

Keep a few slots free for new flavours or products you are testing. If a test does not sell, swap it out.

Stockroom organisation

A simple system saves time:

  • group stock by brand, then by product;
  • label boxes clearly with product name and best-before date;
  • keep a basic stock list and update it after each delivery and each count;
  • check stock levels before each reorder.

Delivery and receiving

Deliveries usually arrive 3-7 working days after payment. When the parcel arrives:

  1. Check the number of cans against your order.
  2. Check packaging for damage.
  3. Check best-before dates.
  4. Move stock to a cool, dry storage area straight away.
